October 27, 1962. While the world is in turmoil outside, shaken by the news of the crash of the small ENI plane, inside a safe and secure place, Enrico Mattei and his two flight companions (Captain Bertuzzi and the journalist McHale) are waiting for information that will allow him to understand what happened. Information that is provided to him by a certain Prosecutor Mania, the only one who seems willing to carry on the investigation, which many instead press to close it permanently. In a crescendo typical of legal thrillers, the four are called upon to re-examine the life and social relationships of Enrico Mattei to find a solution to that puzzle made up of lies, subterfuges and mysteries which could find an answer to the difficult question: Who had an interest in kill Enrico Mattei?
